Strategic Planning with a Purpose: The Path Forward for MUSD
THE K-12 LANDSCAPE IN ARIZONA:
Financial uncertainty, teacher shortages and retention challenges, advocating for student outcomes with limited state funding, and navigating political and policy dynamics all contribute to the ever-changing landscape. Strategic planning in K-12 education involves creating a roadmap for long-term improvement and success, focusing on student and teacher needs, and community and parent involvement. When done effectively, well-executed strategic planning can be the difference that tips districts from mediocre to magnificent.
Since the beginning of the school year, Marana USD has engaged key stakeholders across the district, including teachers, district & school administrators, parents, staff members, students, faith-based groups, community leaders, and businesses, for their input, ideas and feedback on the new strategic vision for the District.
Led by MUSD Superintendent Dr. Streeter, this work kicked off in October at the MUSD Governing Board Summit 2024, where participants learned about the district's current landscape, shared valuable insights, and collaboratively began laying the foundation for the district’s strategic planning process.
Input and ideas have been continuously collected at dedicated Strategic Planning meetings hosted at schools across the district. The community has also been able to share its voice and engage through various forums and events, including parent meetings (MUSD Parent Partnership and school parent groups), MUSD Solutions Teams meetings, MUSD Governing Board meetings, High School Student forums, and more.
“The work will culminate in the creation of a strategic plan that is student-focused,” said Dr. Streeter. “With the input of our most important stakeholders - we are collectively deciding on the areas and skills our students must have before graduating from Marana Schools. Community feedback has informed the plan and helped us narrow our focus, and we are excited to finalize details and present a proposed Strategic Plan to the MUSD Governing Board next school year.”
Voice is Valued in Marana Schools.
