Changes to MUSD Calendar: Plan Ahead for 25-26
teachers learning on pd day

As we prepare for the new school year, we are sharing an important change to our school calendar regarding MUSD Professional Development (PD) Days, which students do NOT attend school on these days. During MUSD staff PD Days, employees participate in critical continuing education in topics around education, class materials, teaching best practices, enhancing student success, and more.

What’s Changing?

In previous years, MUSD students had four-day weekends over two long-holiday weekends, Labor Day (September) and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (mid-January), due to designated days set aside for staff professional learning. PD Days were scheduled on the Friday before these holidays.

Beginning the 25-26 school year, we have shifted those two PD days to better align with our academic calendar and allow teachers and staff more meaningful professional learning time. This helps us make the most of breaks already built into the school calendar, minimizing additional disruptions for families.

Students will NOT attend school on these days:

  • New PD Day: Monday, October 13, 2025 (immediately after Fall Break).
  • New PD Day: Monday, January 5, 2026 (immediately after Winter Break)

Because of these PD date changes, students WILL attend on these days:

  • There IS school on Friday, August 29, 2025 (before Labor Day)
  • There IS school on Friday, January 16, 2026 (before MLK Day)

We understand this is a shift from past schedules, and we appreciate your flexibility as we implement changes designed to better support student learning and educator growth.

We encourage all families to review the full 2025-26 MUSD School Calendar https://www.maranausd.org/parent-tools/district-calendar and to mark these updates in your planners. As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to a successful school year ahead!
