Embracing Our Desert's Beauty

Overhead view of DMK8 On Opening Day

As the first preK-8 CSTEM in Arizona, Dove Mountain was built not only with the future in mind – but also an appreciation of the stunning natural grounds and surrounding desertscape it is lucky to call “home.”Main Arroyo of school

Located on a 20-acre site northwest of Tucson, Dove Mountain is surrounded by rugged mountain ranges and the lush Sonoran Desert. Inspired by nearby natural arroyos, the main building sweeps up sloping terrain, connecting classroom wings and anchored by school administration to the north and the school cafeteria to the south. Makerspaces, science rooms and the media room are visible from the main corridor, promoting learning on display and fostering awareness of student activities and projects.

Each classroom wing is accessible to outdoor learning areas, where students can take their classwork and projects outside. The natural topography was also used to create an amphitheater space where students can learn, collaborate, and present their work outside of class. Solar arrays located on covered parking canopies provide cost-savings and provide for 90% of the building’s energy needs.

Dove Mountain welcomed students and staff for its first year in August 2019. Due to incredible community interest and support, the school continued to expand with additional classrooms opening in spring 2020. The school was designed by Corgan and built by Chasse Building Team.
